Part of the appeal of search engine optimization (SEO) is that it is always changing. The techniques that worked a year ago may not work the same way or have the same effects today. This transforming tendency means that SEO consultants and webmasters are some of the most creative individuals in the marketing and computer industry. Here are some of the trends you can expect to see over the next few months.
Emerging SEO Trends
June 2nd, 2010E-mail Marketing Explained
May 27th, 2010
E-mail marketing is a type of direct marketing that utilizes electronic mail to correspond to an audience. Honestly, every email that is sent to potential clients could be considered a marketing strategy. In most cases, email marketing builds a relationship between the sender and the receiver, which encourages customer’s loyalty as well as repeat business. Some emails on the other hand, prompt the receiver to click a link in the email and purchase a product at that time, during a sale or providing that price for X amount of hours. Some companies send third party ads along with their emails or even allow third parties to send emails to their customer list.
Just Say No To NoFollow!
May 19th, 2010
Originally the no-follow tag was created by Google in 2005 as a way to prevent spammers from stealing credibility from other sites. However, because of the overuse of no-follow on web pages, today it is crippling search engines such as Google from finding hundreds of thousands of new pages of information. For example, all links shared on Twitter are automatically no-follow links. This means that Google’s spiders won’t crawl any of those pages. This is a huge loss of information for search engines and ultimately consumers.
Search Engine Optimizaton Fundamentals
May 7th, 2010Search engine optimization may sound almost frightening for newcomers that wish to have a web presence; however, it does not have to be a scary experience. The truth is, search engine optimization also known as SEO is nothing more than the process used to improve the amount of visitors or the number of quality visitors known as traffic to your website from search engines that came to your website through search results and not any type of advertisement. The belief by internet gurus is that if your website appears near the top of the search results you will receive more visitors or traffic from the search engine.
The Dangers of Google Buzz
April 14th, 2010
Google Buzz has inspired a variety of opinions and reactions since Google released it early February. Some complain it is “blurring the lines between what’s private and what’s public, causing privacy mishaps and email paranoia.” Others think that Google has finally broken onto the social media scene and will replace both Facebook and Twitter in the coming years. Whatever your opinion, one thing is for certain, Google Buzz, like all social media has one inherent flaw: Privacy.
Is Google’s Sandbox for real?
April 5th, 2010
According to a Google webmaster the Google Sandbox, “kind of disappeared sometime ago.” Before we can answer if the Google Sandbox is real, we should explain what it is. In March of 2004, webmasters began noticing that new sites were not ranking as highly as they should be. “The rankings were seen as poor despite good Google PageRanks, strong incoming link totals, and overall good optimization practices being employed.” This “probation period” that Google gave to new websites began to be called “Google’s sandbox”. Whether the Sandbox actually exists as its own filter or is merely a part of Google’s general algorithm is still highly disputed. However, no one disputes the effect of the Sandbox. Some webmasters claim that Google’s Sandbox is old news and not applicable to today’s search engine optimization (SEO) tactics, which I would have to disagree with.
